Russell B. Jones, DVM

Russell B. Jones, DVM, a native of Western Kentucky, born in Marshall County and raised in Paducah, started his journey to becoming a veterinarian as a young child. He was already asking for a veterinary toy set for Christmas when he was six or seven years old.  The kit came complete with a folding doctor's bag made of cardboard, a plastic stethoscope, reflex hammer, syringe, and various bandaging materials. For weeks afterwards, until the materials ran out, his stuffed animals were frequently found to be suffering from extreme traumas and he was all too happy to provide the necessary treatments. Having always loved animals, nature, and science, a career in veterinary medicine was not exactly an unexpected direction towards which he gravitated.  During "career day" in 7th grade, a veterinarian was included and spoke on various aspects of the job.   That single day seemed to sharpen and cement his focus towards becoming a veterinarian himself.  Throughout high school and undergraduate studies, the ultimate goal always remained the same.  There were ups and downs over the years but the dream so many others were suspicious would never come to fruition finally became a reality in 2013.  Since then, over 10 years later, Dr. Jones has practiced general small animal medicine and surgery, shelter medicine, high volume, high quality spay and neuter, and emergency/critical care for the past 10 years.  Having significant experience in each of these facets of veterinary medicine has allowed him to uniquely hone his veterinary and client communication skills which has afforded him an excellent reputation in the local and regional community.   Dr. Jones lives just outside Lone Oak with his partner of 10 years, Robert, and their 3 dogs: Aggie, Gilbert, Leo, 2 inside cats: Billy Ray and Tammy Lynn, 3 outside cats: Brother, Sister, and Calvin, and two aquariums.  He loves working with his bonsai trees, in his yard, tending his English style garden, and managing his honey bees.  He has a strong interest botany, gardening and anything that grows.  But, on the other hand, Dr. Jones is a huge nerd that loves all aspects of the sci-fi genre, video games, arts and crafts, sewing, and many other seemingly endless and random hobbies.
